FPL LEAGUES
FPL Classic vs Head-to-Head Leagues: Which Format Should You Pick?
Compare FPL Classic and head-to-head mini-leagues for 2026/27, including scoring, strategy, group size and which Footsy league format fits your friends.
Classic and head-to-head leagues use the same real FPL team, but they reward very different kinds of consistency. Pick the format that matches how your group wants to compete.
Classic leagues
A Classic table ranks every manager by total FPL points. It is easy to understand, scales well to large groups, and rewards the strongest season from August to May.
Choose Classic when your group wants one continuous race and nobody minds that an early lead can become difficult to catch.
Head-to-head leagues
Head-to-head turns each gameweek into a fixture against another manager. A win earns league points, so one bad fantasy score hurts for a week rather than defining the whole season.
Choose H2H for smaller groups that enjoy weekly matchups, changing tables and more opportunities for an upset.
The practical choice
- Pick Classic for larger communities and pure season-long performance.
- Pick H2H for friend groups that want a fresh contest every gameweek.
- Run both if your group wants an overall champion and weekly rivalries.
